God's calling
In our first article we begin to travel through Hebrews 11:8-10 and Genesis 12:1-4, and we get a deeper look into the life of Abraham (his name was first Abram before the Lord changed it). It is impressive how great an impact his obedience to God had, not only on his life, but also on all of humanity. This message analyzes the theme of the call of God in three specific aspects:
1. HEAR GOD'S CALLING AND FOLLOW HIS LEAD
Abram, a man of faith, heard the steadfast call of God. This calling was unequivocal, yet it is interesting that Abram did not know where he should go. This is a lesson for us to accept God's calling even without a complete understanding of the road ahead. It requires faith and obedience, and it reminds us that God's guidance may seem uncertain at times, but He knows the way ahead.
2. TRUST God'S promises & obey his word
God made promises to Abram, as He also does for us in His Word. These promises require not only that we believe them, but that we actually manifest them in our obedience. It is about a deeper trust and a responsibility to live in obedience, and it offers hope and courage for the times when we face challenges.
3. HONOUR GOD and act with integrity
The story of Abram is not without its obstacles. It serves as a reminder that we will all be tested. The key is how we react when we are under pressure. Our challenged faith must guide us to act honestly and with integrity. It is about spreading God's Name through our actions and decisions.
These lessons are relevant to us today. Through the obedience of Abraham we can learn to hear the call of God, trust His promises, and act with integrity in our actions.
